Zerbster Land

The Zerbster Land is a natural area in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt . It is an open cultural landscape characterized by arable land . It is about 536 km² and a main unit of the superordinate main unit group of the Fläming in the north German lowlands . The Zerbster Land forms the southwestern roof of the Fläming to the Elbe and belongs to the catchment area of ​​this river.

At the same time, the Zerbster Land is also a Special Protection Area (SPA) according to the European bird protection directive . It has a size of 6,207 hectares, borders the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve and comprises the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld and Jerichower Land as well as the independent city of Dessau-Roßlau as well as the unified municipality of Gommern, the unified municipality of Möckern, the unified municipality of Zerbst / Anhalt and the unified municipality City of Dessau-Roßlau in the east of Saxony-Anhalt. The Zerbst region is best known for its population of Great Bustards , which are acutely threatened with extinction and which still inhabit several arable sites here.

A landscape protection area (LSG), which was placed under protection in 1990, also bears the name Zerbster Land .
