history
The districts of Leps, Kermen and Eichholz belong to the community. The place Eichholz was first mentioned in 1173. In the village there is a very old fortified church from 1189. The place Leps (name of Slavic origin - Hübschmann) was first mentioned in 1303. Kermen (name of Slavic origin - Masthof) was first mentioned in documents from 1298 and 1330. It originally belonged to the noble family von Statius and later passed into the possession of the princes of Anhalt-Zerbst. A ducal domain was located in the village until 1945. All three places belonged to Anhalt. The main branch of the economy was agriculture until the political change. The linden leaf depicted in the coat of arms is a symbol that has long been used in this municipality. The three linden leaves are supposed to symbolize the three villages. The metal gold is an indication of Anhalt. Large parts of the regional authority are located in the international Steckby-Lödderitzer Forest biosphere reserve. The color green is supposed to symbolize this nature reserve. Leps lives mainly from tourism and pond management.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Eichholz and Kermen were incorporated.
