Dionys Schönecker "Mister Rapid" (born April 29, 1888 in Vienna , † September 14, 1938 in Vienna) was an Austrian football player , coach and official at SK Rapid Vienna .

His career as a footballer (1906-1910) was only brief and moderately successful. At that time there was no regular championship. He took over Rapid as section head in 1910 and held this position until his death. He was also a trainer until 1925. The takeover of the club took place in a financially very bad situation. The club had lost its place and became homeless. The majority of the combat team left the club, Schönecker decided to continue operations with the youth team as a new combat team.

This youth team was already champion in the first regular championship in 1911/12. In 1912 the club also got a new home ground with the Pfarrwiese, which was planned by Schönecker's brother and former national player Eduard Schönecker . In the late 1920s and 1930s, Rapid was under his leadership one of the strongest club teams in Europe ( Mitropacupsieger 1930, 2 × finalist). His leadership style was often described as authoritarian and when there were disciplinary issues with a player, the player in question was often thrown out quickly. A famous example is Josef Bican . Schönecker were also repeatedly accused of anti-Semitic undertones, which manifested themselves in criticism of team boss Hugo Meisl , among other things . On the other hand, Schönecker supported the founding of the Jewish club SC Hakoah Vienna .

During Dionys Schönecker's 28-year tenure from 1910 to 1938, Rapid was 12 times champion, 3 times cup winners and 1 x Mitropacup winners.

He died of complications from appendicitis at the age of only 50.

His honorary grave is located in the Baumgartner Friedhof in Vienna (group 21, number 19). In 1985 the Schöneckergasse in Vienna- Penzing (14th district) was named after him.
