Wörpen is a district of the city of Coswig (Anhalt) in the east of the Wittenberg district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany). Until December 31, 2007 Wörpen with the district Wahlsdorf was an independent municipality with 266 inhabitants on 20.45 km² (December 31, 2007) .

Wörpen on the southern edge of the Vorfläming is about 6 km from the Elbe town of Coswig (Anhalt) . The very wooded and hilly surroundings reach an average of 126 m, west of Wörpen 152 m above sea level. NHN . Wörpen is part of the Fläming Nature Park , which was declared in 2005 .

Draw well near Wahlsdorf

The area around Wörpen was repopulated by West German and Flemish farmers after the World War II. In 1317 the place appears for the first time in a document as Werpene . As early as the 16th century, Coswig was supplied with water from Wörpen by a water pipe .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Wahlsdorf was incorporated.

On July 1, 2007, the municipality of Wörpen was incorporated into the Wittenberg district due to a district reform from the former Anhalt-Zerbst district.

Attractions

North of the Wahlsdorf district on the road to Cobbelsdorf is a restored draw well . The technical monument dates back to the 12th century and the Flemish settlement. The former chapel Wahlsdorf is for sale.

Wörpen is crossed by the road connection Coswig (Anhalt) - Cobbelsdorf, to the west a road leads via Köselitz (motorway junction "Köselitz" A 9 Berlin - Munich) to federal road 107 . The next train station is in Coswig (Anhalt) on the Lutherstadt Wittenberg – Roßlau line .
