history

Village pond

Senst, originally settled by Slavs , appears for the first time in 1228 as Sinsantin (= Heuschneiderort ) in a document, the village church was first mentioned in 1275. Senst's coat of arms shows two crossed scythes in front of a sheaf.

After several changes of ownership, Senst came to the Principality of Anhalt in 1801 .

Small businesses emerged after 1990, and extensive renovation measures have been carried out since then on the streets, on the pavement (new construction) and on the village pond. The municipality of Senst is traditionally shaped by agriculture. Voluntary fire brigade, women's association and local farmers' association determine public life in the village and are significantly involved in the annual customs and festivals (Easter bonfires, carnival, annual village festivals and various street festivals).

On July 1, 2007, the formerly independent municipality of Senst was incorporated into the Wittenberg district due to a district reform of the former Anhalt-Zerbst district.

church

The stone church of St. Petri from the 13th century consists of the nave , a rectangular choir and apse . In 1744 the church was rebuilt in baroque style, the tower dates from 1904. The organ came from the company Fleischer und Kindermann from Dessau in 1914 and the bronze bell was cast in 1758 by Chr. Ziegler from Magdeburg .

politics

coat of arms

Blazon : "In red a golden sheaf of grain, in the middle covered with two crossed silver scythes, the scythe irons turned downwards."

Although the place name comes from Slavic and has nothing in common with scythes, the chosen symbolism of the crossed scythes aimed at creating a so-called talking coat of arms. The municipality decided to use yellow-red as the local colors. The coat of arms was designed in 1997 by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .
