The aim of the foundation is to preserve the 61 listed churches in the region in the long term. It was established as a trust foundation under the umbrella of the German Foundation for Monument Protection on September 26, 2005 in Polenzko . The advisory board of trustees includes Saxony-Anhalt's Interior Minister Holger Hövelmann .

A large part of the churches are located in the Fläming Nature Park , which was declared almost at the same time in 2005 . With its location north of the Elbe in Zerbster Land and Fläming , the church district contains a large number of medieval stone churches that were built in the course of the state expansion by the Ascanian Margraves of Brandenburg in the 12th and 13th centuries. The stone testimonies of art, culture, life and faith are also to be made accessible to a broad public through regular openings. On its website, the foundation has so far presented over 40 churches in detail on separate pages with text and images and sorted by location.

According to the Foundation, the term determined churches is intended to refer to the determination to preserve the churches. On the other hand, the name symbolizes the opening of the churches, that is, their resolution .
