The Ronneburg District Office was an administrative district in the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg and in the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg from 1900 to 1922 . Today, its area essentially belongs to the districts of Altenburger Land and Greiz in Thuringia . Some former communities are now part of the Saxon district of Zwickau .
history
The Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg in the German Empire consisted of two separate parts of the country, the western district around Kahla , Roda and Eisenberg and the eastern district around Altenburg and Ronneburg . When the state was reorganized on April 1, 1900, the city of Altenburg became independent and the other communities in the eastern district were divided into the new district offices of Altenburg and Ronneburg. The seat of the District Office Ronneburg was in the city of Ronneburg.
In 1918 the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg became the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which in turn became part of the State of Thuringia on May 1, 1920 . In a comprehensive regional reform on October 1, 1922, the Ronneburg district office was dissolved. The western half of the district office with the city of Ronneburg came to the new district of Gera , while the eastern half with the cities of Gößnitz and Schmölln came to the new district of Altenburg .
