The place is in the Ronneburg arable and mining area . The abandoned shaft 403 of the Drosen deposit is located on the north-western edge of the village, in which SDAG mined Wismut uranium ore . It can still be recognized today by the distinctive winding tower. The geographic height of the place is on average 240 m above sea level. NN .
history
The place was first mentioned on November 10, 1181. The district was a former church, parish and vassal village with different first mentions that were not documented. In 1563 five farmers cultivated their land in the village. There were 130 inhabitants. The school burned down in 1620 and the estate in 1787. In 1629 and 1632, imperial troops occupied the village. They looted and ravaged the place.
Großstechau belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Großstechau belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg district office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Gera .
On July 1, 1950, Großstechau was incorporated into Löbichau. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus Großstechau came as a district of the municipality of Löbichau with the district of Schmölln to the district of Leipzig , which had belonged to Thuringia since 1990 as the district of Schmölln and which became part of the district of Altenburger Land during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 .
In June 1976, shaft 403 of the Drosen deposit was sunk by the SDAG Wismut . Uranium ore has been mined there since 1982 . After the closure in 1991, the area was redeveloped. The Drosen heap disappeared when the material was transferred to the Beerwalde heap. To this day, the headframe of shaft 403 is a reminder of the mining era.
