Ronneburg arable and mining area

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ronneburg arable and mining area is a natural area immediately to the east of Geras in the east of Thuringia , and to some extent also in the west of Saxony . It forms the extreme northeast of the main unit of the East Thuringian-Vogtland plateaus and the easternmost partial landscape of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the broader sense .

The flat, undulating slate mountain rump area is located in the northeast of the Greiz district , to a lesser extent in the east of the independent city of Gera and in the extreme southwest of the Altenburger Land district (previously all of Thuringia) and in the extreme west of the Zwickauer Land district (Saxony). According to the structure of Thuringia's natural spaces, its inner- Thuringian area is 160 km²; according to the BfN profile, its total area is 190 km².

Location and limits

The Ronneburg arable and mining area includes the eponymous city of Ronneburg in the north, Seelingstädt in the east and Teichwolframsdorf in the extreme south .

The arable and mining area borders in the north on the Altenburg-Zeitz loess hill country and in the east on the Obere Pleißeland , which today is mostly part of the Erzgebirge basin , but in any case is part of the Erzgebirge foothills . From there the southern border to the Mittelvogtland hilltop region stretches from the southwest of Werdau to north of Greiz , from where the southwest border to the "actual" East Thuringian-Vogtland plateau, the (no longer included) valley of the White Elster via Berga and Wünschendorf to the northeast until Gera follows.
