Maximilian Lanzinner
Maximilian Lanzinner (born July 30, 1948 in Reichertshofen ) is a German historian .
Maximilian Lanzinner graduated from high school in 1967. After military service, he studied from 1969 to 1974 at the University of Munich and the University of Regensburg . In 1976 he received his doctorate in Regensburg with a thesis supervised by Dieter Albrecht on the development of central authorities in Bavaria from 1511 to 1598. From 1978 to 1991 he worked as a grammar school teacher and worked for the historical commission at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . His habilitation took place in Regensburg in 1990 with the thesis on "Securing peace and political unity in the empire under Emperor Maximilian II." From 1991 to 2001 he was Professor of Modern History and Bavarian State History at the University of Passau . From 2001 to the winter semester 2014/15 he taught as a professor for early modern times at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .
Lanzinner took over the chairmanship of the Association for the Research of Modern History in 2003 and was responsible for the publication of the Acta Pacis Westphalicae (files of the Westphalian Peace Congress) from 2003 to 2013 . Since 2013 he has been director of the newly established Center for Historical Peace Research at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Bonn. He has been a full member of the historical commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences since 2001. Lanzinner has held the position of deputy secretary there since 2006 and has headed the “German Reichstag files. Imperial assemblies 1556–1662 ”. At the beginning of 2013 he took over the publication of the New German Biography and German Biography (online). Lanzinner is a member of various advisory boards for scientific institutions and societies, including the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Association for Constitutional History and the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
His main research interests include the history of the empire in the 16th and 17th centuries. Lanzinner is one of the authors of a volume of the latest edition of the classic textbook of German history, the " Gebhardt ". In the last few decades, Lanzinner made significant progress in research on peace and peacekeeping in the early modern period . He wrote numerous relevant studies on the imperial peace policy under Maximilian II.
