The districts of Beiersdorf , Sachsenroda and Wüstenroda as well as the Rittergutsweiler Unterau belong to Pölzig , which is no longer run as a district today.

history

Pölzig was first mentioned in writing in 1184. The place developed into an early urban settlement in the 14th century and was also mentioned in a document to the Wettins dated May 15, 1328 as a little town, with natural ramparts to fortify them. However, in the late Middle Ages, Pölzig did not receive city rights like Schmölln or Lucka , which, like Pölzig, had belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg since 1603 .

A castle still existed in the village, which was also mentioned in 1328 and from which the Pölzig manor later developed. Heinrich von Creytz († 1207) is named there as the owner. The manor was still owned by Hildebrand von Creytz in 1580. In 1622 a ducal mint was located here. From 1681 the manor was owned by Volkmar Dietrich von Zehmen . Then the Henckel von Donnersmarck family bought it . The tower of the castle was blown up on October 25, 1936 by the owner at the time, who had acquired the manor a year earlier, and the structure was partially demolished. A cigar factory existed in Pölzig until 1950, which today is commemorated by a monument in the form of a cigar.

Pölzig belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century onwards was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Pölzig belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 Pölzig came to the district of Gera .

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Sachsenroda was incorporated. Beiersdorf followed on July 1, 1961. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, the municipality of Pölzig came to the district of Gera-Land in the district of Gera , which had belonged to Thuringia as the district of Gera since 1990 and which became part of the district of Greiz during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 .

Pölzig was connected to the Gera-Meuselwitz-Wuitzer Railway from 1901 to 1969 . The station building, which has been preserved to this day, is located on the edge of an industrial park northwest of Pölzig in the Beiersdorfer Flur. Today it is used as a small museum and as the domicile of the “IG GMWE Bahnhof Pölzig” association.

In addition, state road 1081 runs through Sachsenroda, Pölzig and Beiersdorf from Seelingstädt- Chursdorf to the Saxony-Anhalt state border near Heuckewalde .

The local public transport is mainly provided by RVG Regionalverkehr Gera / Land . Line 208 connects Pölzig directly to Gera during the week and every two hours via Heuckewalde at the weekend . Furthermore, the bus company "Herzum Tours" connects the place with Ronneburg at irregular intervals .
