Schwaara is a municipality in the Greiz district in Thuringia . She is a member of the administrative association Am Brahmetal .
geography
Schwaara is located east of the city of Gera at the junction with the federal motorway 4 . The district lies on the western edge of the Altenburg-Zeitzer-Lösshügelland .
Neighboring communities
Neighboring communities are Brahmenau , Großenstein and Korbußen in the district of Greiz and the communities Röpsen and Trebnitz, which were incorporated into Gera in 1994 .
history
The village of Schwaara emerged as a Sorbian settlement and was first mentioned in 1307 as Squwaara .

politics
Acting mayor is Jürgen Matthes (non-party). He was last confirmed in office on June 6, 2010 with a majority of 100%, he had no opposing candidates and no voter made use of his right to write his own proposal on the ballot paper. The turnout was 61.8%.
The six members of the municipal council were determined in the local elections on May 25, 2014 in a majority vote. The turnout was 73.8% (−1.9% p).
Attractions
The village church of St. Ursula was built in the 15th century.

Schwaara can be reached via the junction Kreuz Gera of the federal motorway 4 . From 1953 to 1969 Schwaara had a stop on the Gera-Pforten – Wuitz-Mumsdorf railway line .
