history

The small village was first mentioned on September 24, 1140. In the 13th century, the burgraves of Altenburg owned the place. In 1291 they transferred some hooves in Jauern to the Teutonic Order of Altenburg. Jauern later belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony- Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place again became part of the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg.

After the administrative reform in the Duchy, Jauern belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. With a comprehensive regional reform in Thuringia, a new district of Altenburg was formed on October 1, 1922 , to which Jauern has belonged since then.

On July 1, 1950, the village was incorporated into Göldschen . During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, Jauern came as a district of Röthenitz to the Schmölln district in the Leipzig district . Röthenitz was again incorporated into Altkirchen on August 25, 1961 . With this Jauern came to Thuringia in 1990 and to the Altenburger Land district in 1994. In 2012, 40 people lived in the village. With the incorporation of the Altkirchen community into Schmölln, Jauern has been part of Schmölln since January 1, 2019.
