history

The place Lumpzig is first mentioned in a document from Bishop Udo I of Naumburg in 1140 as Lomzke . A Heinrius de Lumpzhicz is mentioned in 1291. The place belonged to the family of the end of Kayna and was probably only of a Vorwerk with sheep farm. In 1668, today's mansion was built by Heinrich Hildebrand von Einsiedel , which was used as a nursing home from 1948 to 2007. The associated manor passed into civil ownership in 1798. In 1935 it had a field size of 137 hectares and was thus expropriated in the course of the land reform in 1945 .

Until the 19th century Lumpzig belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603) , Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the Duchy, Lumpzig belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .

The last post mill in the Altenburger Land from 1732 is located south-west of the main town and is therefore the oldest of its kind in Thuringia. The church on the south-west edge of the village was built in 1830. Since the Großbraunshain dairy was built in 1897 the regional specialty Altenburger goat cheese is produced.

The current districts of Großbraunshain, Hartha and Kleintauscha were incorporated on July 1, 1950. Braunshain became a district of Lumpzig through reclassification from the municipality of Bröckau on January 1, 1956. Before 1952, this place did not belong to the Thuringian district of Altenburg , but to the district of Zeitz in the formerly Prussian province of Saxony . The Prehna district was incorporated on January 1, 1957 without its Meucha district.

During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus the municipality Lumpzig came with the district Schmölln to the district Leipzig ; that had belonged to Thuringia since 1990 as the district of Schmölln and became part of the district of Altenburger Land during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 . Since January 1, 1992, the municipality of Lumpzig has belonged to the Altenburger Land administrative community . On January 1, 2019, Lumpzig was incorporated into Schmölln and the Altenburger Land administrative community was dissolved.
