The Blue Flood is a stream in the Altenburger Land in Thuringia and the right-hand tributary of the Gerstenbach , which flows into the Pleiße . The brook takes its name from a dye works that in the 20th century drained its mostly blue dyeing water into the brook.
course
The stream with the meaningful name has two source streams: Blaue Flut and Kleine Blaue Flut .
The blue tide rises at about 265 m above sea level. NN near Graicha and initially flows in a westerly direction via Altkirchen, where it takes up the Trebulaer Bach, to Burkersdorf . Here the brook turns to the northwest in the direction of the two ponds near the Schlöpitz desert , where it picks up the small blue tide from the left.
The Little Blue Flood rises at about 240 m above sea level. NN in the village of Großtauschwitz . It flows almost in a straight line to the northeast, experiences a first traffic jam at Gödissa , and continues its course through Göldschen in the same direction as the compass . At the Schlöpitz desert it feeds the two ponds mentioned, where it flows into the blue tide .
From here the stream flows in a north-easterly direction past Kürbitz, through Kosma and to the Altenburg ponds. After crossing Altenburg and Kauerndorf partly underground , it flows into Unterzetzscha at an altitude of about 150 m above sea level. NN into the Gerstenbach coming from the left , a left tributary of the Pleiße . The blue flood has covered 23 km from its source at Graicha and 13.2 km from Großtauschwitz with a difference in altitude of 70 or 90 m.
Tributaries
The largest tributary of the Blue Flood is the Kleine Jordan / Deutsche Bach with a length of 14 km. It rises near Prehna and flows to the northeast, where it takes up the Schwanditzbach just before Romschütz . Starting in the Altenburg district of Steinwitz , the Little Jordan is called the German Bach. It flows into the Blue Flood north of Altenburg train station .
