Location of Schlöpitz in Thuringia

The Schlöpitz desert was a part of the former municipality of Kosma (today: district of Altenburg ) in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

Geographical location

The Schlöpitz desert is located in the far west of the Altenburg district of Kosma and the entire urban area in the valley of the Blue Flood . Kürbitz , to which the desert belongs, is about a kilometer to the east. There are three ponds in the hallway.

history

The district was one of the oldest villages in the Altenburger Land and is now the youngest desert . Around it lay nature and Altenburg landscape with a rich tree population. Schlöpitz was first mentioned in the tithes of the Bosau monastery in 1181 and 1214 as Zlepz , which in Old Sorbian means something like the springing out . The place was in the valley of the blue tide at two former ponds at a height of 200 to 205 m above sea level. The place used to be a fiefdom of the Buch monastery near Leisnig . There was a mill and a manor in the village . The place Schlöpitz and the manor belonging to the place as Sonnenlehn were located in the Wettin office of Altenburg . From the 16th century, due to several divisions in the course of its existence, this was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Schlöpitz belonged to the eastern district (until 1900) and to the Altenburg district office (from 1900). The place had about 30 inhabitants around 1867. From 1918 on, Schlöpitz belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 the hamlet came to the Altenburg district .

The district of the place covers 87 hectares, in 1935 24 inhabitants lived in Schlöpitz. Together with Kürbitz, the settlement was incorporated into Kosma on April 1, 1938. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, the settlement came with the district Altenburg at the Leipzig district , since 1990 as a county belonged to Altenburg Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country.

How it came to desolation

The district was located off the traffic routes in the valley of the Blue Flood only about one kilometer above Kürbitz. It was one of the smallest settlements and consisted of only two farms . There was still a lot of activity until after 1970. The LPG type III Free Country Kosma maintained a technology base in the village. In February 1985 the last buildings were demolished after several years of vacancy and decay. Today the former fortification of a moated castle is under monument protection, the island .

Attractions

When the empty buildings were razed to the ground in early 1985, an ancient stone wall was found on the island of the large pond , which was registered as a ground monument . These were and are traces of human culture. See moated castle “Die Insel” in Schlöpitz (fortifications) in the list of cultural monuments in Altenburg .

The tuber stones were found in the river bed of the Blue Flood near Schlöpitz . These are tertiary lignite quartzites . The Knollensteine are registered natural monuments in the Altenburger Land district .
