history
The place Dobitschen is a Slavic local foundation, the name goes back to the Sorbian word dobry (good). In older documents, the place name is still given with Doberschen , Dobrezhen and similar, the r is not used until the end of the 14th century . The manor can be traced for the first time in 1204, when Heinrich von Dobitschen had a church built in the village. A Hans von Dobczehn was mayor of Altenburg in 1390 . In 1696 Meucha, Nasselwitz (today a desert between Meucha and Dobitschen), Pontewitz and Prehna were parished to Dobitschen. After the manor had changed hands several times after the von Dobitschen family died out at the end of the 16th century, it was owned by the Bachoff von Echt family from 1697 to 1945 . The manor house was used to fire on 7 April 2004 as a boarding an agricultural cooperative. The manor complex is still completely preserved in its form, from the baroque moated castle to the manor. The current church was built in 1702. A school is first recorded in 1737.
Dobitschen belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies from the 16th century due to several divisions in the course of its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the duchy, Dobitschen belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Altenburg District Office (from 1900). From 1879 the Altenburg District Court and since 1906 the Meuselwitz District Court were legally responsible for the place. From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Altenburg .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Pontewitz and Rolika were incorporated.
During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, the community came Dobitzschen with the county Schmölln to the district of Leipzig , since 1990 as a county belonged to Schmölln Thuringia and opened in 1994 Altenburger in the district of the country. From January 1, 1992 to December 31, 2018, the Dobitschen community was part of the Altenburger Land administrative community . This was dissolved and so Dobitschen commissioned the city of Schmölln as a fulfilling municipality.
