Friedrich Hildebrand von Einsiedel , also Friedrich Hildebrand Freiherr von Einsiedel-Scharfenstein (born April 30, 1750 in Lumpzig , † July 9, 1828 in Jena ) was a German lawyer and writer . As chamberlain at the Weimar court, he was a friend of Duke Carl August and Goethe .

Life

Einsiedel was the son of August Hildebrand von Einsiedel (1722–1796) from the Saxon noble family Einsiedel and older brother of the philosopher and natural scientist August von Einsiedel . In 1763 he became a page . From 1768 he studied law in Jena and became a government assessor at the court in 1770. In 1775 he was a councilor and assessor at the court in Jena. From 1775 to 1807 chamberlain of the Duchess Anna Amalie and deputy court master of the Dowager Duchess. From 1788 to 1790 he made a trip to Italy . In 1802 he became a privy councilor and chief steward. He was last appointed as the first president of the Weimar Higher Appeal Court in Jena in 1817 and retired in 1825.

During his time at the Weimar court , he translated Terenz , Plautus , Molière , Calderon etc. for the court theater, wrote his own plays and took part in enthusiastic performances. He was musically gifted and wrote opera libretti. He published basic lines for a theory of the art of acting anonymously (Leipzig 1797). Einsiedel was friends with Christoph Martin Wieland and also contributed four pieces to his collection of fairy tales, Dschinnistan, as well as texts for the literary magazine 'Teutscher Merkur'. He was also a popular member of the Weimar Court of Muses . In 1784 he wished to join the Illuminati League ; However, it is not clear whether this request was granted.
