history

Stolzenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1420. Stolzenberg belonged to the Wettin office of Altenburg , which from the 16th century was under the sovereignty of the following Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence : Duchy of Saxony (1554 to 1572), Duchy of Saxony-Weimar (1572 to 1603), Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg (1603 to 1672), Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg (1672 to 1826). When the Ernestine duchies were reorganized in 1826, the place came back to the duchy of Saxony-Altenburg. After the administrative reform in the Duchy, Stolzenberg belonged to the Eastern District (until 1900) and to the Ronneburg District Office (from 1900). From 1918 the village belonged to the Free State of Saxony-Altenburg , which was added to the State of Thuringia in 1920. In 1922 it came to the district of Gera .

On July 1, 1950, Stolzenberg was incorporated into Posterstein. During the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, the existing states were dissolved and the districts were redesigned. Thus, Stolzenberg came to the district of Leipzig as part of the municipality of Posterstein with the district of Schmölln , which had belonged to Thuringia since 1990 as the district of Schmölln and which became part of the district of Altenburger Land during the Thuringian district reform in 1994 . 50 residents lived in the district in 2012.

After the Second World War, uranium ore mining developed by SDAG Wismut in the region around Ronneburg . Between 1956 and 1960, the "Stolzenberg opencast mine" was opened between the A4 federal motorway in the north and Stolzenberg in the south. Its area was 7.0 hectares with the dimensions 350 m × 140 m. Its maximum depth was 264 m above sea level (approx. 30 m below the turf). 92.0 t of uranium were extracted during the term. Between 1974 and 1977 the Stolzenberg opencast mine was tipped with material from the depths of the shafts in Beerwalde and covered with cultivated soil. As part of the renaturation, the Stolzenberg dump was partially profiled between 1977 and 1979 and the slopes flattened. Today the 16 hectare dump (including the apron) is used for forestry.
