history

The oldest surviving documentary mention as Wilnrode comes from the year 1339, when the abbot of Fulda , Heinrich VI. von Hohenberg , the village of Willenroth as a fief to the von Hutten gives. At first the village was parish to Soden or Salmünster, later a branch of the chaplain of Romsthal .

After the Lords of Hutten had sold the office of Hausen to the Electorate of Mainz in 1540 , they had to grant them sovereignty over the place in 1558 . In 1706 Mainz sold Willenroth, which had previously belonged to the Hausen district, to the Isenburg county , where it was assigned to the Birstein district . The inhabitants managed to maintain their Catholic faith even under the new Protestant rule. So "Catholic" was officially included in the place name. Since 1787 it belonged to the Principality of Isenburg-Birstein , where it was assigned to the Reichenbach court . After media coverage of Isenburg land it came to the Electorate of Hesse , where in 1821 an administrative reform took place, the Kurhessen in four provinces and one rushed 22 circles. Catholic Willenroth came to the Salmünster district , in 1830 to the Gelnhausen district , in 1848 to the Hanau district and in 1851 again to the Gelnhausen district. In 1866 the electorate was annexed by Prussia after the Austro-Prussian War , so Catholic Willenroth was Prussian.

In the run-up to the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Katholisch-Willenroth, still the district of Gelnhausen , was incorporated into the town of Salmünster in the district of Schlüchtern on July 1, 1972 . 1 July 1974 at Bad Soden Salmünster force with the city state law to the new town of Bad Orb was merged and moved simultaneously in the newly formed Main-Kinzig-Kreis. For Catholic Willroth one was local district with the town council and mayor set up.
