Untersotzbach is a district of the municipality of Birstein in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district .

The place is in the lower Vogelsberg, southeast of Birstein am Sotzbach . State road 3196 runs through the village .

history

Untersotzbach was first mentioned in a document in 1326 under the place name Sotsbach superiori . One church was named in 1488. It was not until the 17th century that Sotzbach was divided into Obersotzbach and Untersotzbach. In 1939 the place belonged to the district of Gelnhausen and had 347 inhabitants.

The place name changed from Sotsbach (1326) and Sotzbach (1356) to the current name.

On April 1, 1972, Untersotzbach was incorporated into the community of Birstein.
