About this picture

Osterberg is a municipality in the Swabian district of Neu-Ulm and a member of the Altenstadt administrative community .

geography

Osterberg is located in the Donau-Iller region in Central Swabia . It is 40 km south of Ulm and 20 km north of Memmingen .

The following districts and parts of the municipality exist : Osterberg, Weiler .

history

Osterberg belonged to the barons of Osterberg and was the seat of the rule of the same name. With the Rheinbund act 1806 the place came to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reforms in Bavaria, a patrimonial court was established in 1818 , and in 1848 the current political municipality.

In the year 1225 the "defunct" church "SB Maria Virginis" in Osterberg owned by the monastery Elchingen was mentioned. In 1448 the Ochsenhausen monastery was declared to have an estate at Osterberg. In 1455 Gaudenz von Rechberg acquired three farms and one Sölde in Weiler. By division among brothers in 1507 Gaudenz von Rechberg received Osterberg, Weiler and Wolfenstall. In 1535 he began to build a new church "St. Maria" in place of the old, dilapidated church. He also began building Osterberg Castle, which was built on a mountain tongue above the town in the second half of the 16th and early 17th centuries, including older parts. The main building, the so-called Hohe Schloss , the Niedere Schloss , is grouped around an elongated courtyard , in the west the office and gardener's house, on the south side the Leutehaus with Remisen. In 1679 the barons von Rechberg zu Osterberg sold the rule to Johann Michael von Röfingen auf Bühl. In 1712 the Röfingers were raised to imperial barons of Osterberg. In 1816, Anselm Freiherr von Osterberg sold the castle property with patrimonial court to Christoph Friedrich Freiherrn von Ponickau , who set up a family entrepre- neurship . Dieter Freiherr von Malsen-Ponickau sold the property in 1995 after the inventory had been auctioned.
