Malsen is the name of an old noble family from Geldern , who first appeared in a document with Roger de Malsen between the years 1076 and 1099 and whose family line began with Nicolaes (Claes) von Malsen , who appeared in a document as a knight from 1312 to 1333 .

origin

Well Castle (Huis van Malsen)

The name of the family was probably a Ritterhof in Buurmalsen (one kilometer north of Geldermalsen )

In 1326 Nicolaes (Claes) van Malsen was enfeoffed with Kasteel Well (municipality of Maasdriel ), which remained in the family's possession until 1611 Johanna van Vladeracken nee. sold by Malsen.

Through the marriage of Robrecht van Malsen to Margriet van Haastrecht, Kasteel Tilburg came into the possession of the family from 1507 to 1621 , which was then brought into her marriage to the general Anthonie Schetz by Maria van Malsen . From 1530 to 1612 Hongerenborgh Castle ( Heusden municipality ) was also owned by the family, Onsenoort Castle (near Nieuwkuijk, Heusden municipality ) from 1554 to 1672 and the imperial rule of Kessenich (Belgium) from 1618 to 1669 .

The family provided several abbots from the Premonstratensian Abbey of Berne (in Heeswijk): Arnoldus (1492–1515), Conradus (1528–1549) and Gerlacus (1728–1741).
