The Counts of Waldkirch come from a bourgeois family of the city of Schaffhausen ( Switzerland ), whose ancestor Heinrich Goldschmid, known as Waldkirch, appears in 1405. Emperor Friederich III's letter of arms dates from 1487 . for Konrad Waldkirch, Mayor of Schaffhausen.

origin

In Schaffhausen there is still the Haus zum Ritter with the most important facade paintings of the German late Renaissance, which was made around 1566 for Hans von Waldkirch u. a. was adorned with his coat of arms.

The family in the 18th and 19th centuries

Baron Johann Theodor von Waldkirch, Oberstjägermeister of the Electorate of Bavaria in Bavaria, was commissioned by Elector Karl Theodor in 1780 to create a fenced-off zoo, today's Hirschgarten , in Munich and was raised to the rank of count on July 24, 1790.

The property included the Schermau estate in Lower Bavaria (inherited by the von Malsen family) and Binau Castle with Dauchstein Castle on the Neckar (sold in 1869). Also at the end of the 19th century, for a short time, Kolberg Castle in Altötting .

With the death of Count Maximilian von Waldkirch in Stuttgart in 1886 , a grandson of Count Johann Theodor, the male line died out. Several members of the family were canons in Regensburg , Augsburg and Freising , as well as knights of the Bavarian knight house order of St. George . Family relationships existed in the 18th and 19th centuries and a. to the families of Riaucour , Göler von Ravensburg , Venningen , Malsen-Waldkirch and Godin .

The family's coat of arms shows a silver, descending, curved black tip covered with a gold ring. A picture can be found in Johann Siebmacher's coat of arms book from 1605. The coat of arms of the builder is attached to the Waldkirchschen house (built in 1602) in Rheinau : von Waldkirch– Muntprat .
