Au is a district of the city of Illertissen in the district of Neu-Ulm , Bavaria .

history

The formerly independent municipality was first mentioned in a document in 1280. For centuries it belonged to the rulership of Brandenburg, in 1539 it changed to the Fugger family and from there as a fief to Dietenheim-Brandenburg-Au. On December 25, 1805, Au came to the Kingdom of Bavaria after the Peace of Pressburg-Bohemia .

Regularly up to the regulation of the Iller and the construction of the Illerkanal , floods occurred in Au and the adjoining village Dornweiler for centuries. In 1860 industrialization reached the place with the construction of the oil mill on the Mühlbach. An economic upswing followed with the establishment of a chemical-pharmaceutical company called Cognis , today part of BASF Personal Care and Nutrition , and the pharmaceutical company Heinrich Mack Nachf., Later part of the Pfizer Group , now owned by a Russian investor as R-pharm .

The formerly independent municipality in the dissolved district of Illertissen with the districts of Bruckhof and Dornweiler was incorporated into the city of Illertissen on January 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform .
