The SpVgg Au / Iller is a football club with four affiliated departments: basketball , gymnastics , table tennis and tennis from the town of Au, which belongs to the town of Illertissen in Bavaria .
history
SpVgg Au / Iller was founded in October 1928. Although it is a Bavarian club, the first team was a founding member of the newly introduced Verbandsliga Württemberg in 1978 as champions of the 2nd amateur league, from which they had to relegate a total of three times. 1979/80 she took part in the DFB Cup , but failed in the second round at SpVgg Bayreuth . In the 1996/97 season she was promoted again to the Württemberg Association League and immediately won the runner- up under coach Walter Modick . Also in WFV Cup were encountered this season prior to the final, in which one in the stadium of VfL Kirchheim / Teck , however, the Oberliga side SV Bonlanden short of 0: lost first Also in the promotion relegation to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg one just failed this year at SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim . After the first leg in Kirchheim was lost 3-0, SpVgg Au / Iller won the second leg 3-1 after losing, but the goal they conceded in extra time prevented the Auer (still) from advancing to the league.
In the 1998/99 season, the sports association and its coach Karl-Heinz Bachthaler then managed to climb up to the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga as champions of the Württemberg Association . This made the Auer the first Bavarian club to play in Baden-Württemberg's top amateur class. The climax of the sporting successes was the year 2001, in which the club became “Württembergischer Fußballmeister”. Ex-professional Walter Kubanczyk acted as Auer trainer . In 2004, the club had to relegate from the league.
Although the main sponsor of the Auer, who had been active for decades, announced his withdrawal in 2007, the club succeeded in returning to the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga in 2008 with 2nd place in the association league. But the lack of sponsorship money should make itself felt in this league and so SpVgg Au / Iller rose back into the association league in 2009 as 17th and thus penultimate, heavily in debt. After relegation, all the first-team players left the club.
The goal of the 2009/10 season was then to achieve relegation in the association league with a team playing for free. This goal turned out to be an illusion, although the Auers actually managed to send a completely free association league team and coach into the race. In November 2009 the club was deprived of the points it had gained up until then. This was justified by the fact that some players had obtained the right to play through false information from the association. Specifically, the remuneration agreed in the contracts on the part of the players was returned to the club as a donation, so that the association ultimately treated the concluded contracts as bogus contracts. As a result, not only were the games in which the players in question played lost, but four more points were also deducted from the club. Since the team was also unable to keep up in terms of sport in the association league, the season was finally concluded with a single point and a goal balance of 26: 112 as the bottom of the table.
In the 2010/11 season, a newly formed team entered the Württemberg state league. In order to avoid bankruptcy, the club's management withdrew the national league team from play during the winter break and since then has only had one team in the A Donau / Iller district league.
