Tamás Bódog [ ˈtɒmaːʃ ˈboːdoɡ ] (born September 27, 1970 in Dunaújváros ) is a Hungarian football coach and former player.

Player career

Bódog began his career as a defender with the Hungarian club Pécsi Mecsek FC . In 1994 he moved to the German regional league club SSV Ulm 1846 , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 1998 and the Bundesliga in 1999 and relegated to the 2nd division again in 2000.

After relegation, the five-time Hungarian national player was retired and initially came under the upper division SpVgg Au / Iller before he was signed in September 2000 by the second division 1. FSV Mainz 05 . In Mainz, Bódog, who was initially used as a right full-back, disappointed until he prevailed in central defense in the second half of the 2000/01 season.

In 2002/03, a serious foot injury forced the athletic defender to take a six-month break. What was remarkable in the last home game of that season was his completely atypical goal for the 4-1 intermediate result against VfB Lübeck after a solo run over half the pitch.

After the Mainz team rose in the summer of 2004, Bódog was initially a regular player until he suffered a complicated facial fracture in a training accident and was out again for half a year. Since then, Bódog has only been used sporadically. His expiring contract was not renewed in the summer of 2006. 2007 Bódog returned to Mainz 05 to strengthen the amateur team in the Oberliga Südwest as an experienced player .

For the second half of the 2011/12 season he played again with his former Mainz teammate Christof Babatz in the Limburg-Weilburg regional league for SG Kirberg / ears .

Coaching career

After a first position as assistant coach of 1. FSV Mainz 05 II from 2007 to 2009, Bódog moved as assistant coach to the Hungarian first division club Videoton FC . With this he reached second place in the 2009/10 season and won the Hungarian championship in the 2010/11 season . After the season he left the club and trained as a football teacher. For the 2012/13 season he was hired as assistant coach by his former coach Ralf Rangnick , sports director of RB Leipzig . His contract was terminated in summer 2015. From June 2016 to March 2017, Bódog was Alexander Zorniger's assistant coach at Brøndby IF .

From March 2017 he will be the new head coach of the Hungarian first division club Diósgyőri VTK . In February 2020 he took over the position of head coach at league competitor Kisvárda FC
