Alexander Zorniger (born October 8, 1967 in Mutlangen ) is a German football coach .

Career as a coach

Zorniger was the coach of 1. FC Normannia Gmünd between 2004 and 2009 , who played in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In the 2008/09 season he finished ninth.

He was replaced by Lothar Mattner , as he received the offer to work as an assistant coach at VfB Stuttgart under Markus Babbel . Half a year later, on December 6, 2009, Zorniger left VfB Stuttgart.

On July 1, 2010 he signed with the regional league team SG Sonnenhof Großaspach to support the then assistant coach Rüdiger Rehm . There the promotion to the 3rd division was just missed in the 2011/12 season.

At the same time, Zorniger completed his training at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy, which he completed as the best in the 58th football teacher course (2011/12).

RB Leipzig

On July 3, 2012, Zorniger became head coach at RB Leipzig . He was the successor of the Austrian Peter Pacult , who had previously been terminated by the new sports director Ralf Rangnick .

In his first year with the Leipzig team, he moved up to the 3rd division in 2013 and, unexpectedly, into the 2nd division in 2014 . After losing contact with the promotion places in the table in the second half of 2015, the club announced that it would part ways with him at the end of the season. Zorniger resigned prematurely on February 11, 2015.

VfB Stuttgart

For the 2015/16 season , Zorniger took over the Bundesliga team at VfB Stuttgart as the successor to Huub Stevens . He received a three-year contract valid until June 30, 2018. After only ten points won from 13 Bundesliga games, VfB Stuttgart ended their cooperation with him on November 24, 2015.

Brøndby IF

Angry was the coach of Brøndby IF since the 2016/17 season . In the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, he finished second with the club in the Danish Super League, and in 2018 he won the Danish Cup . In February 2019 he was given leave of absence as head coach of the team in fourth place in the table.
