Christof Babatz (born September 3, 1974 in Hanover ) is a German football player .

Career

societies

After serving at TSV Schulenburg and SV Germania Grasdorf , Christof Babatz switched to the A-Juniors of Hannover 96 in 1990 . Three years later, the 39-time junior international made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga . Before he moved to Hamburger SV in the 1997/98 season, the midfielder played 57 times for Hannover 96.

In Hamburg, Babatz commuted between the regional league team (27 games) and the Bundesliga team (26 games). In 2000 he moved to 1. FSV Mainz 05 , where he finally established himself in professional football. The powerful gunshot Babatz played a key role in the Mainz upswing and made it possible for Rheinhessen to rise to the Bundesliga with two goals and six assists in the last five games of the 2003/04 season . In the 2: 4 at VfB Stuttgart Babatz scored the 1: 2 intermediate result. This makes him the first Bundesliga goalscorer in the 05er. After poor performance and a protracted injury, Babatz temporarily lost his regular place in the Mainz midfield in the 2005/06 season, which he regained in the first half of the 2006/07 season.

During the winter break of the season, he moved to the second division TuS Koblenz . He could not convince and mostly only came to short appearances, but on the 33rd matchday he secured relegation with his only goal for TuS Koblenz.

In the summer of 2007, Babatz moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim . The then top division team equipped with experienced players, some of whom had Bundesliga and second division experience, in order to be promoted to the new regional league. This was achieved with Babatz as team captain . In this role, he was also at the head of a players strike in February 2009 after two months of no salaries. After his contract was terminated in 2009, he ended his active career for the time being.

From the beginning of October 2011 to January 2012 Babatz played at VfL Eiterfeld in the Fulda group league. In January 2012, he moved to SG Kirberg / ears as a player-coach in the Limburg-Weilburg regional league (8th league).

Since 2011, Babatz has been the sporting director of the 1. FSV Mainz 05 soccer school, which was opened by the club on his initiative. In January 2020 - initially until the end of the season - he also took on the post of co-trainer for the U19s from Mainz 05, who play in the A-Juniors Bundesliga .

National team

With the German U-16 national team , he took part in the European Championship , which was held in Switzerland from May 8th to 18th, 1991 . He reached the final with the team, which was lost 2-0 against the selection of Spain.
