Siegfried Schneider (soccer player)

Siegfried Schneider (born July 15, 1958 in Ulm-Söflingen ; † October 15, 2010 ) was a German football player . The midfielder and striker came to a total of 113 second division appearances, in which he scored 23 goals.

Career

The tailor, who came from the youth of SV Thalfingen , joined SSV Ulm in 1846 in 1976 . Initially active with the team in the 1st Amateur League North Württemberg , he qualified with the club in 1978 for the newly introduced Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . There the attacker contributed with seven goals this season to the fact that the team around Günter Berti , Walter Kubanczyk and Dieter Kohnle rose to the top of the table ahead of the equal points SV Göppingen and 1. FC Eislingen in the 2nd Bundesliga . In the southern season of the competition he was under coachKlaus-Peter Jendrosch and his successor Jörg Berger are regular players on the club's offensive. His ten goals this season - making him the second best club-internal scorer behind Kohnle - helped the newcomer to the league as table-16. In the following season with nine goals no less successful in the opposing penalty area, the club surprised as fifth. Due to the merger of the two second division seasons, however, the club missed qualifying for the single-track 2. Bundesliga by one point and was relegated to the top division.

Siegfried moved from the best-placed relegated team to the worst-placed non-relegated team, as he joined SpVgg Fürth , which was ranked 14th in the season. the 2. Bundesliga South had ended. Set up in midfield at his new club, he was unable to maintain his good goal rate from the Ulm days. At the side of Lothar Leiendecker , Fred Schaub and Wolfgang Metzler , he scored four goals this season for the “Kleeblätter” in his first season. In the following season he remained without a goal and was relegated with the club from the 2nd Bundesliga.

After relegation Schneider returned to the Ulm area and joined the SpVgg Au / Iller in the Württemberg regional league . After one season he went to SV Machtolsheim as a player- coach , in 1986 he returned to his hometown club SV Thalfingen , where he ended his active career in 1988. The passionate table tennis player worked full-time as a municipal employee for the city of Ulm.
