Wolfgang Metzler (born June 23, 1952 in Jügesheim) is a former German soccer player .
Player career
Via the stations SV Jügesheim and Germania Niederrodenbach (regional league) Wolfgang Metzler came to the second division FSV Frankfurt in 1975 . After he made his professional debut against SSV Reutlingen (1-0) on the first match day of the 1975/76 season , it took until his tenth game before the striker scored his first goal for Frankfurt. From this point on, he regularly used for his club, so that at the end of the season he had by far the most for his team with 13 goals. In the next season he initially played 13 games (four goals) for FSV and then moved to Bundesliga club 1. FC Kaiserslautern in early November, before the winter break .
Even if Metzler managed a double in his second game for the “Red Devils”, he could not prevail and was substituted on 14 times in his 20 appearances. He left FCK after nine months and moved within the Bundesliga to TSV 1860 Munich . With the “Löwen” he experienced decline (1978) and rise again. Although it was not always set here, it stayed with 1860 Munich for almost 3½ years. In November 1980 he said goodbye and signed a contract with SpVgg Fürth . There he played for three years as a regular in the 2nd Bundesliga and even scored 17 goals in his last season ( 1982/83 ). Nevertheless, Fürth ended up on a relegation zone that season. Metzler stayed in the second division by moving to Hertha BSC .
In the capital, he played for two years and then went for a year in the Verbandsliga Schleswig-Holstein for VfB Lübeck . From 1986 to 1989 he was back in the capital, for Spandauer SV , on the ball, where he was able to prove his scoring qualities once again in the Oberliga Berlin .
Coaching career
Following the end of his career as a player, he was a coach at Spandauer SV for one season (1989/90). He then worked for two years, until the club went bankrupt in 1992, at Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin : from 1990 to 1992 he was the club's amateurs trainer and head coach from September 1991 to April 1992. At the end of the 1990/91 season he was the team's interim coach.
