Serrfeld is a district of the community Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld ( Bavaria ).

Serrfeld is located in the Haßberge Nature Park . It borders on the Heldburger Land in Thuringia .

history

Around 1040 28 penniless crusaders settled in the area of ​​today's Serrfeld. They built a refuge at the highest point . In order to store their precious belongings in the church fortress in times of need, they equipped it with 28 gaden . When Bramberg Castle was destroyed by Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa on June 10, 1168 , he stayed in the Serrfeld fortified church for one night.

In 1340 Serrfeld was first mentioned in a document as "Seiherfelt". The place name means swamp or sedge grass. In 1433 Serrfeld received a village order - one of the oldest in Lower Franconia. In those years the village was owned by a. the Truchsesse von Wetzhausen , the hospital in Neustadt an der Saale and that of Herbilstadt .

In 1528 a Lutheran preacher was named in Serrfeld . Various village lords tried to win the Serrfeld back over to Catholicism in the following years, but they could not change their mind even under pressure. Serrfeld today has the curiosity that there is a Catholic church in a Protestant village.

Serrfeld came to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg of Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany in 1806 and with this fell to Bavaria in 1814 .

In 1959 a new school with a teacher's house was built. On January 1, 1978 Serrfeld was incorporated into the community of Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke.

The church "Our dear woman" was in the 13./14. Century erected. The oldest components date from the 10th century. It is said to have been an important Marian pilgrimage church. Although the local residents became Protestant as early as 1528, the little church remained a Catholic branch church of the parish of Neuses. It was not until 1820 that the village became part of the Protestant parish of Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke. The community in the village is now part of the Evangelical Lutheran Dean's Office in Bad Neustadt an der Saale . In the interior of the church, the altar with carvings from the 15th century is remarkable. The panels show the proclamation, visitation, birth, and presentation of Christ in the temple. The Riemenschneider altar has not yet fully returned to the church. To this day, the Bundorf parish makes a pilgrimage to the branch church on May 1st and celebrates a service there.

Fortified church

In 1978, during excavations at the fortified church, which is considered to be one of the most important in Rhön-Grabfeld, it was found that in the 9th / 10th A fortification stood in the 19th century. The Fliehburg, of which only the main tower and a corner alley remain today, extended over an area of ​​40 by 40 meters.
