history

The foundation stone for today's Volksbank Ruhr Mitte eG was laid in 1884 by 20 Buerer craftsmen, merchants and farmers with the establishment of the Buerer savings and loan association, a registered cooperative. In 1911 the bank moved into its first own building on Hagenstrasse, and in 1972 it moved to Goldbergplatz, where its headquarters are still located today. The first branch was opened in 1935 as a paying office at the Gelsenkirchen slaughterhouse and cattle yard. Since 1974 the bank has operated as Volksbank eG Gelsenkirchen-Buer. In 1986 the bank merged with Volksbank Gelsenkirchen eG, in 1989 with Volksbank Gladbeck eG, in 1990 with Volksbank Polsum eG and in 2005 with Volksbank Herten / Westerholt eG. After the mergers, the formerly location-based bank was present in seven cities and thus a regional bank. The meeting of representatives therefore decided on May 14, 2007 to give the bank a name that does justice to its size and importance for the region and renamed it Volksbank Ruhr Mitte eG.

education

In the trainee editorial team, the trainees in their second year of training take on responsibility for the "Training" area on the website for one year. The third-year apprentices managed and managed two branches independently over a period of three weeks in 2011 and thus got to know everyday work after their training. During the youth counseling days, third-year trainees advise school leavers, high school graduates, trainees and students.

Social Commitment

Volksbank Ruhr Mitte eG supports projects and institutions that aim to make life in the “Ruhr Mitte” region more livable in every respect. It promotes cultural projects such as the KreativWerkstatt, which "opens the door to art and culture" for children and young people, is involved in education, cooperates with local schools and carries practical business and financial information into the classroom. It supports social engagement and finances institutions such as the Förderverein Trauerbegleitung eV or the Emmaus Hospice. Volksbank Ruhr Mitte is also committed to promoting sport with initiatives such as the Volksbank Youth Promotion Prize. Since 1997 it has been honoring outstanding performance by athletes who are younger than 16 years.
