Location of Ipthausen in Bavaria

Ipthausen is a district of the town of Bad Königshofen in Grabfeld in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld ( Bavaria ).

geography

The place is in the Lower Franconian part of the Grabfeld and belongs to the Haßberge Nature Park . The Franconian Marienweg runs through Ipthausen .

history

In 1244 “Yptehusen” first appeared in a document. The name suggests that it is a very old settlement. In 1317 Ipthausen belonged as part of the "Neue Herrschaft Henneberg" ( Care Coburg ) to the Heldburg Office of the County of Henneberg- Schleusingen. In the vicinity there is said to have been a castle ( Burgstall Blankenberg ) at the point where the “mountain house” is today. Through two divisions of the Schleusinger line in 1347 and 1353, the place fell to Count Eberhard II of Württemberg . He sold Ipthausen to the Würzburg monastery in 1354 . Since then, the place has been part of the Würzburg district of Königshofen , which was temporarily pledged to the Henneberg-Aschach line in the 15th century.

In 1803 Ipthausen was secularized in favor of Bavaria , then in the Peace of Pressburg in 1805 Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany was given to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg , with which it finally fell to Bavaria in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

On January 1, 1972, Ipthausen was incorporated into the town of Bad Königshofen in Grabfeld.

Culture and sights

religion

In 1739 a Marian brotherhood was founded with papal confirmation. A pieta from the 17th century in the church, venerated as a miraculous image, was the focus of a pilgrimage that lasted until the 20th century.

1749–1754, a new church was built in place of a medieval Michael's chapel according to plans by the Königshöfer master mason Johann Michael Schmitt. Georg Anton Urlaub created magnificent ceiling paintings based on Tiepolo's models in the pilgrimage church of the Birth of Mary. For the ceiling painting in the choir, Urlaub even copied the motif of Tiepolo's Angel 's Fall in the court church of the Würzburg residence. The church is a jewel with its pretty rococo furnishings.

Attractions

In 1915 it was reported that the village had picturesque farmhouses with the covered walkways characteristic of the Königshöfer area.
