Jewish cemetery (Ipthausen)

The Jewish cemetery Ipthausen is located in Ipthausen , a district of the Lower Franconian town of Bad Königshofen in Grabfeld in the Rhön-Grabfeld district .

history

The cemetery was founded in 1920/1921, at a time when Ipthausen was still an independent community and was not inhabited by Jews . The construction of the cemetery wall was made possible by a donation from David Friedmann, who was also the first to be buried in the cemetery.

The cemetery was first desecrated in 1921 and 1925. In 1933, a Nazi supporter used stones from the cemetery wall to build a home. During the National Socialist era , 104 of the 150 tombstones ( Mazewot ) and a. used to build stairs in the city park.

In 1974 a memorial for the Jewish victims of National Socialism in Bad Königshofen and the surrounding area was erected next to the entrance gate. In 1997, a pyramid-shaped memorial was erected from some of the misappropriated gravestones.

Location and characterization

The cemetery is located east of Bad Königshofen between Bad Königshofen and Ipthausen. Its area is 30.22 ares .

Of the approximately 150 grave sites that existed in the cemetery before 1933, only 14 can be identified today.
