The Jewish cemetery Gerolzhofen is a Jewish cemetery in Gerolzhofen , a town in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .

history

The cemetery was created in 1639 a few hundred meters east of the outskirts. A Chewra Kadisha (Burial Brotherhood) was established in 1715. In 1788 a Chewra Anoshim (burial brotherhood for women) followed. The cemetery has been expanded several times over the years and Jews from the surrounding communities were also buried on it.

In the history of the cemetery there were several desecrations: In 1927 by two NSDAP members and also in 1936 and 1938. Most recently, on January 24, 1999, Nazi symbols were sprayed on the wall and the Tahara building.

Location and characterization

The cemetery is on the outskirts of Gerolzhofen on the B286 .

The three parts of the cemetery correspond to three occupancy periods. On the 120.35 ares large cemetery 528 deceased are buried in 44 rows, of which 250 can be assigned by name.
