Epitaph

The Jewish cemetery Euerbach is located in Euerbach , a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt .

history

After the first Jews had settled in Euerbach in 1554 after the expulsion of the Jewish residents from Schweinfurt , the first burial took place in the Jewish cemetery of Euerbach on July 16, 1672. The landlord Adam Ulrich von Steinau had sold a field on the Hasenklinge below the “Euerbach wood” to the Jewish community . It is not known where the Euerbach Jews buried their dead between 1554 and 1672.

Over time, not only Jews from Euerbach were buried in the Euerbach cemetery, but also from Niederwerrn , Obbach , Geldersheim and Kützberg , and occasionally from Schweinfurt and Arnstadt. In the years 1734, 1835 and until 1936 the cemetery was expanded.

In November 1938, members of the Hitler Youth desecrated the cemetery.

A tahara house , a prayer house (both built around 1807) and a fountain are said to have been located next to the entrance, which were destroyed by a grenade explosion in the Second World War . The last burial in the cemetery took place in 1940.

Location and characterization
