Hans Dessauer sen. (* June 24, 1869 in Aschaffenburg ; † October 23, 1926 there ) was a German industrialist and politician.

Life

Hans (Johann Franz Josef) Dessauer's parents were Philipp Dessauer and Maria Elisabeth Vossen from Aachen, daughter of the paint manufacturer Franz Vossen in Aachen. His great-grandfather was Alois Dessauer , who converted from Judaism to Catholicism with his entire family in 1813. A brother of Hans Dessauer was Friedrich Dessauer , his eldest son was the engineer Hans Dessauer jr, another son was the manufacturer, art collector and professor Guido Dessauer .

Hans Dessauer first attended elementary school and the first three classes of grammar school in Aschaffenburg, then continued attending school in Aachen, where he also graduated from high school. He then studied chemistry in Freiburg and Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1892 with a thesis on pyrazoline and trimethylene derivatives .

As a student, Dessauer became an active member of Catholic student associations in the KV , in Freiburg with Brisgovia, in Munich with Saxonia. Dessauer remained an enthusiastic KVer until his death.

After completing his studies, Dessauer first worked in the paint factory of his uncle Leo Vossen in Aachen and then took over the management of the company's Paris branch for two years. In 1896 he went to a pulp mill in Wisconsin ( USA ) for a year , from 1897 he worked in his father's Aschaffenburg colored paper factory. After his death in 1900, he joined the management of this company.

Dessauer was a member of several industrial associations and the BVP's economic committee ; from 1919 he was also a member of the Aschaffenburg city council for the BVP.

Because of his services he was awarded the title of Commerce Councilor.
