history

There is historical evidence that there was a medieval Jewish cemetery in Miltenberg as early as 1336 , but it is not known where it was.

Burials may have been carried out in the old cemetery as early as the 15th century. The report by the teacher of the Jewish school from 1927 suggests that the cemetery was used in the 16th or 17th centuries. According to his note, the oldest tombstone that was still legible at that time dates from 1812.

When the cemetery was fully occupied towards the end of the 19th century, the New Jewish Cemetery of Miltenberg was built in what is now the Bergstrasse Odenwald Nature Park.
