Jewish cemetery (Höchberg)
The Jewish cemetery Höchberg in the Lower Franconian town of Höchberg , a market in the district of Würzburg , is located in the southeastern local area of Höchberg and has an area of 23.1 ares . Today there are still about 300 tombstones ( mazewot ).
history
The discovery of a gravestone with writing and text from the 13th century suggests that there was already a Jewish cemetery in Höchberg at this time .
The cemetery of the Jewish community of Höchberg, which has existed since the 17th century, was laid out in 1821 "Am Judengarten". The first burial in the cemetery was on March 21, 1824, that of Sophie Rhein, who was born in 1791.
In 1878 the “Würzburger Rav ” Seligmann Bär Bamberger, who died on the 2nd day of Sukkot 5639 according to the Jewish calendar, was buried here.
