Schönau is a parish of the municipality of Tiefenbach and the northeasternmost village in the Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park .

The district of Schönau borders on the districts of Breitenried, Hannesried and Tiefenbach, the communities Weiding and Stadlern in the district of Schwandorf, and Rybník nad Radbuzou (Waier) and Nemanice (water soups) in Okres Domažlice (Czech Republic). The place is located on the Hüttenbach , popularly known as Perlbach ( river pearl mussel ), and on the Bavarian Schwarzach at 526 m above sea level.

history

Until the territorial reform in 1972, Schönau was a separate municipality in the former Oberviechtach district , which also included Charlottenthal (now the Stadlern municipality, Schwandorf district). The incorporation into today's municipality of Tiefenbach took place on July 1, 1974.

Architectural monuments

  • Filial church St. Laurentius in Schönau: gable-independent hall building with saddle roof, retracted apse and facade tower with pointed roof, built in 1836, choir extension in 1954.The church was renovated in 2003. The chancel and the altarpiece were designed by the Neustadt artist Max Fischer .
  • Hüttenhof farm in Schönau: two-storey half-hipped roof construction around 1600 and sheepfold with hayloft, gable roof construction on the eaves, block construction, probably 19th century.
  • Residential house, Dorfstrasse 13, single-storey, gable-free half-hipped roof building, 1st half of the 19th century
