Cross with death boards on the Kagerner Höhe (2012)

Kagern is a district of the municipality of Tiefenbach in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham in Bavaria .

Geographical location

The approximately 20 houses in the village of Kagern are located west of Schönau on the slope of the 788 m high Buchsberg .

history

The village of Kagern existed before 1270. It belonged to the Schneeberg office, the center of which was Altenschneeberg Castle . In the years from 1270 to 1803 the village changed hands frequently, was at times a Bohemian fiefdom and returned to Bavaria in 1805 through the Treaty of Pressburg . In 1803 Kagern was sold to the royal Bavarian lieutenant general Carl Wilhelm Graf von Eckart on Leonberg, whose daughter Katharina Eugenie married the French general Graf Du Moulin. Since then, Kagern has been part of the rulership of the Counts Du Moulin-Eckart, whose descendants now (2012) live in Winklarn Castle.

Culture and sights

On the Kagerner Höhe about 500 m north of Kagern there is a cross with 19 death boards in a forest clearing on the slope . Every Monday before Ascension Day there is a star-shaped procession from the villages of Weiding , Schönau , Hannesried and Kagern to this cross. An open air service is held on the cross.
