Okres Domažlice (German: District Taus ) is a district in the border area of the West Bohemian Plzeňský kraj in the Czech Republic . Around 60,000 inhabitants live on 1,123 km². The main town is Domažlice . The Okres consists of 85 communities and 244 districts.
Most of the district, which includes 12 nature reserves and 13 natural monuments, is 450 meters above sea level. Among the most valuable are the jungles Čerchovské hvozdy ( Black Kopfer forests ), Bystřice, Pleš , Stary Hirštejn and remains of marsh and wetland areas Louka u Šnajberského rybníka, Postřekovské rybníky, Hvožďanská Louka and the Natural Park Zelenov, Sedmihoří and Český les . The district is a member of the Šumava Euroregion .
economy
The number of raw materials extracted is small and limited to pegmatite , feldspar , brick clay and stones. The industry is concentrated in the areas around Domažlice , Kdyně and Klenčí pod Čerchovem . The most important branches are mechanical engineering (KDYNIUM, ELITEX MACHINERY, KOVOBEL) as well as electrical engineering (STEATIT, KEL - MONTÁŽNÍ TECHNIKA, HAAS - Bohemia), precision mechanics (GALÍ – Optik), glass production ( Flabeg ), plastics processing (PLASTIK HT) and the feed manufacturer DOAGRA. In wood processing, the largest employers are Anton Heggenstaller, CHODOVIA CZ, OTM – Möbel, in textile processing HODETA-Shirts, DAMO.
In agriculture, cereals, beets, oil crops and maize are mainly grown, while livestock farming deals with the breeding of cattle, pigs and sheep. Forestry also plays an important role. Unemployment is the lowest in the district at 4.6%.
