history

Otov was first mentioned in a document in 1239, when King Wenceslaus I assigned the village and other localities to the Kladruby monastery . In 1379 the village was listed in the Pilsen berní rula. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the Vladiken family Rochce von Otov resided in Otov, who descended from the Příchovský of Příchovice and was in the service of the Dobrohošť family of Ronšperk. The manor was south of the village; a Fixed did not exist in Otov. Since 1537 Otov belonged to the Ronšperk domain . In the berní rula of 1654 ten farmers are listed for Wottawa. The first written evidence about the Wottawaer mill comes from 1657. In 1757 there were 21 farmers in Wottawa. After the introduction of compulsory schooling in 1774, the Wottawa children were educated in Metzling , where the village was also parish.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Wottawa / Otov 1850 with the districts Altparisau and New Parisau a municipality in the judicial district Bischofteinitz . Since 1869 the community belonged to the district Bischofteinitz . In 1871 a school of its own was opened in Wottawa, and classes were held in German. In 1913, 331 people lived in Wottawa's 51 houses. 111 children were taught in three classes at the school. The Counts Coudenhove-Kalergi on Ronsperg managed the Meierhof . In 1930 there were 715 people living in Wottawa. After the Munich Agreement , Wottawa was added to the German Reich and until 1945 belonged to the Bischofteinitz district . In 1939 the community had 719 inhabitants and consisted of 66 houses. In the last days of the Second World War, six young Czechs from Postřekov tried to prevent the SS from transporting the supplies from the mill. They were taken prisoner and tortured to death. According to another representation, six partisans wanted to disarm some dispersed German soldiers on May 4th. The local chronicle of the nearby village of Mlýnec (Linz) says: "The consequence of this carelessness was the death of six young boys from Possigkau who believed they would still earn laurels at the end of the war." On May 10, 1945, Czech partisans attacked the German civilian population in Wottawa, killing four residents and two German soldiers; on June 10, another eight residents were abducted without ever reappearing.

After the end of World War II, most of the Germans were expelled from Otov and the Czechs settled. Since 1960 the Otov municipality has belonged to the Okres Domažlice . In 1961 Otov was incorporated into Nový Kramolín . The school closed in 1972 and the children have been educated in Poběžovice ever since. In the 1980s, the Meierhof and the mill were demolished; Prefabricated buildings were built on the village square. Between 1985 and 1990 Otov belonged to Poběžovice as a district . In the 1991 census, 114 people lived in Otov's 32 houses.
