history

Beginnings to the 14th century

The name Koloveč comes from kolová ves, which means in German: village built on stilts. The area around Koloveč was swampy and therefore the houses were built on wooden stakes. Koloveč is located in the area of the Prague diocese, which has the oldest settlement. It was first mentioned in writing in a document from Bishop Jindřich Břetislav of Prague from 1197 as the property of the Premonstratensian monastery in Doksany near Litoměřice . The Přemyslid Ottokar I , the first hereditary king of Bohemia, confirmed Koloveč as the property of the monastery in Doksany. Pope Gregory X confirmed in 1273 that the village of Koloveč was given to the Doksany monastery with fields, forests, meadows and all tax revenues. In 1384 Koloveč was listed as belonging to the Archdeaconate Horšov.

14th century to 16th century

From the 13th century to the 16th century, the towns in the Czech Republic went through an uncertain time with numerous local wars, which the frequently changing rulers and feudal lords fought among themselves, right up to the Hussite invasions in Bavaria . In 1421 the Hussites attacked the Doksany monastery and burned it down. The monastery was robbed of its estates and Koloveč came into secular possession. In 1491 King Vladislav Koloveč gave the nobles Jan and Hynek von Roupov to hereditary property. The von Roupov family ruled Koloveč for 90 years until 1580. They built mansions (today nos. 35 and 186), a brewery, renovated the church, and gained a market coat of arms, a seal, market and brewing rights for Koloveč. In 1580 they sold Koloveč to the knights Žákavec of Žákava. Koloveč subsequently changed hands several times.

17th century to the present

Even in the 17th century the area around Koloveč did not find peace and six years after the end of the Thirty Years War half of the houses in Koloveč were devastated and empty. The living conditions were very poor and the respective owners were heavily in debt. In 1711 Koloveč was bought by the family of Czernin von und zu Chudenitz, who kept it until 1925. With this change of ownership, the situation turned for the better. The new owners helped after fires, with the building of a school and a town hall, with the construction and renovation of the church and with the sick and poor. At that time there were 12 potters, 11 tailors, 12 cobblers, 7 carpenters, 3 locksmiths, 3 blacksmiths, 2 bakers and shopkeepers, cloth makers, gingerbread makers , merchants and innkeepers in Koloveč .

Community structure

The municipality Koloveč consists of the districts and cadastral districts of Koloveč ( Kollautschen ) and Zichov ( Sichhof ).

Culture and sights

As early as the 13th century there was a church in Koloveč dedicated to St. Barbara . Today's Church of the Annunciation and the rectory were built in the 18th century. Next to the church there is an original memorial for the fallen of the two world wars: a laughing Bohemian lion presses the paw on the chest of the Austrian double-headed eagle lying miserably on its back. A handicraft museum shows the pottery handicraft, which has a long tradition in Koloveč, which goes back to the 16th century.
