history

The first documentary mention of Tlumačov took place on March 16, 1325 in the Chodenprivileg of Johann von Luxemburg as one of the eleven privileged Chodendörfer.

At the beginning of the 17th century, the Kauth manor including Tlumačov was attached to the Riesenberg domain . In the Berní rula of 1654, 27 farms are shown for Tlumačov. In 1668 the Choden privileges were declared invalid. In 1676 Georg Wenzel Czernin von und zu Chudenitz sold the Riesenberg estate to Wolf Maximilian Laminger von Albenreuth . The new compulsory demands raised by Laminger and his coercive measures triggered the First Chod Uprising on July 6, 1693. At first the rebels from Tlumačov hid in the forest northwest of the village, on July 13th they moved to Pocinovice and Chodská Lhota . Laminger, who had the rebellion put down, thereby acquired the reputation of a cruel landlord. In 1697, his heirs sold the Lordship of Chodenschloß , Kauth and Zahoran to Heinrich Georg Reichsgraf von Stadion. In 1698 he had the radical leader of the Chods from Tlumačov, Adam Forst, pardoned. The Counts of Stadion raised the allodial rule of Kauth and Chodenschloß to a family affiliation. In 1757 the village consisted of 57 properties. During the Second Chod Uprising in 1767, Tlumačov was one of the centers of the rebellion. Until the middle of the 19th century Tilmitschau was subject to the rule of Kauth.

After the abolition of patrimonial Tlumačov / Tilmitschau formed a community in the judicial district of Taus from 1850 with the districts Pelechny / Bernloch , Kohlstätten / Šnory and Philippsberg / Filipsberg . From 1868 the municipality belonged to the Taus district . The municipality was on the language border; While Tlumačov and Pelechy were Czech-speaking, there was predominantly a German-speaking population in Philippsberg. In 1884 a German-speaking school was opened in Philippsberg. To prevent further Germanization, the Ústřední matice školská established a Czech school in Pelechy in 1885, in which 62 children from Pelechy, Philippsberg and Mlýneček / Stallung were taught in the founding year. In 1930, 573 people lived in the 111 houses of Tlumačov. After the Munich Agreement , the districts of Philippsberg and Kohlstätten were added to the German Reich, after which they belonged to the district of Markt Eisenstein as districts of Neumark and Maxberg between 1939 and 1945 . After the end of the Second World War, Filipova Hora and Šnory came back to Czechoslovakia, most of the German residents of both places were expelled. Šnory remained largely uninhabited and was demolished with the exception of one house. 1961 the districts Pelechy and Šnory were umgemeindet to Stráž .
