history
The name Hvožďany means forest dwellers (Czech: hvozd = high forest, forest). Hoslau (also: Haßls, Haslau, Haslern) was first mentioned in writing in 1528. It passed from Starý Herštejn to the possession of the Lords of Poběžovice. In 1656 Hoslau recorded 4 farmers, 9 chalupners, a gardener, 45 teams, 22 cows, 25 young cattle, 32 sheep and 52 pigs.
In 1789 the village consisted of 22 houses. In 1839 it belonged to the Majoratsherrschaft Bischofteinitz and had 25 houses, 175 inhabitants, an inn, several mills, a mirror loop and was originally parish in Berg and schooled in Ronsperg - finally also parish in Ronsperg. In 1913, Hoslau had 23 houses, 145 residents, several mills, a beer bar, two millers, a shingle maker, a blacksmith, a landlord and a tobacco shop.
A Wenceslas Chapel was built in 1900 and was demolished in the 1970s.
After the Munich Agreement , Hoslau was added to the German Reich and until 1945 belonged to the Bischofteinitz district .
There is said to have been a Jewish cemetery near Hoslau.
