The Pivoňka (German Piwonka , formerly Piwanka , also Geschwindbach ) is a left and the largest tributary of the Černý potok in the Czech Republic . It is the most important watercourse in the Dobrohost microregion.

course

The Pivoňka rises just under a kilometer north of the Starý Herštejn castle in the Upper Palatinate Forest / Český les. Its source is located west of Vranov or southeast of the Herštejnské Chalupy desert ( Hirschsteinhäuseln or Gibacht ) in the ground between the Starý Herštejn ( Hirschstein ; 878 m nm) and the Lysá ( Lissaberg ; 870 m nm). At its upper reaches, the Pivoňka initially flows in an easterly direction through extensive forests. At Vranov the stream changes its course to the northeast and flows through Pivoň , where it feeds a cask of eight ponds at the castle . The Pivoňka then runs through Mnichov . The stream then leaves the nature reserve and the Český les Nature Park and flows past Hvožďany and Šitboř through the foothills of the Upper Palatinate Forest to Poběžovice . There the brook on the western outskirts feeds the swimming pool and several ponds south of the castle. On the eastern outskirts of Poběžovice, the Domažlice – Tachov railway crosses the stream; on the left side of the Pivoňka runs the Staňkov – Poběžovice railway line . The lower reaches of the Pivoňka runs east through Zámělíč . After 13 kilometers, the stream flows northeast of Ohnišťovice into the Černý potok .

history

In 1040 in the upper valley of the brook in the battle of Biwanka troops of the Bohemian Duke Břetislav I defeated an army of the Roman-German King Henry III.

Numerous mills, hammer mills and glass grinding shops were later built along the stream. On the stream between Pivoň and Mnichov, the Pivoňka used to drive the weapon hammer, the hammer loop, the ranger loop and the Mühlloh loop. Below Mnichov in the valley between the Steinbühl ( Skalky ; 533 m nm) and the Steinbruchberg (630 m nm) were the Heinitzer mill, the Wolfgang loop, the paper loop, the Eichbühl loop and the acorn mill. Down the stream from Poběžovice was the dance mill. As a result of the global economic crisis , some of these companies had to cease operations. After the end of the Second World War and the expulsion of the German population, the remaining businesses went out.
