Neighboring towns are Štichov , Kvíčovice and Ohučov in the north, Dolní Kamenice and Horní Kamenice in the northeast, Krchleby, Vytůň and Lhota in the east, Čermná in the southeast, Hlohová in the south, Vránov in the southwest, Puclice in the west and Čečovice in the northwest.

history

Staňkov was created in 1938 through the merger of the previously independent places Ves Staňkov (village Stankau) and Městys Staňkov (market Stankau). In 1960 Staňkov was promoted to town.

Ves Staňkov (village of Stankau)

The village on the left side of the Radbuza was first mentioned in a document in 1233 when it was owned by the brothers Ritter Witla and Prkosz ze Stancowic at Lacembok Castle. In 1271 Witlo ze Stancowic sold the village to the Chotěšov monastery . After its destruction by the Hussites in 1421, Holýšov belonged to various worldly owners. In 1576 the lords of Lobkowicz bought the village on Bischofteinitz . The village of Stankau remained with Bischofteinitz until the end of patrimonial rule in 1848 and then became an independent municipality. The rulers owned the goods until they were expropriated in 1945.

Městys Staňkov (Stankau Market)

The Staňkov market on the right of the Radbuza was first mentioned in 1367. Like the opposite village, the market belonged to the Chotěšov monastery. After its destruction by the Hussites, the place came in 1425 as a pledge to Zdeňek z Drštky, the owner of the Bischofteinitz estate.

In 1602 the place received the brewing rights and the brewery was established. After the battle of the White Mountain , the Lords of Lobkowicz lost their property in Bischofteinitz and from 1623 the market was returned to the Chotěšov Monastery. In 1639 Markt Stankau was given the right to collect tolls over the Radbuza. In 1647 a post office was built. In 1690 the place was given market privileges. The place has had a city coat of arms since 1800. After the secularization of the monastery in 1782, Prince Karl Alexander von Thurn und Taxis acquired the Chotěšov rule for 1,080,000 guilders from the religious fund. Thurn und Taxis also held the goods in Markt Stankau until 1945. In 1867 the disused glassworks was converted into a ceramic factory. The Stankauer Aktien-Brauerei started operations in 1873 and was sold to the Counts of Trauttmansdorff two years later for financial reasons . In 1908 a gravitational waterworks was built for the brewery, which today serves to supply the city with drinking water.
