Klenčí pod Čerchovem , until 1946 Kleneč pod Čerchovem , (German Klentsch ) is a minority in the Okres Domažlice , Plzeňský kraj in the Czech Republic .
geography
Klenčí is located at the foot of the Bohemian Forest about nine kilometers west of Domažlice and 54 kilometers southwest of Pilsen on Čerchov (1042 m).
history
The place was first mentioned in 1325, the parish church in 1384. In 1680 Emperor Leopold I gave the town a coat of arms. The last Bohemian post office was there on Bavarian Street.
From the 18th century on, Klentsch belonged to the allodial rule of Kauth and Chodenschloß in the Klattau district, from 1850 to the district of Taus in the Pilsen district. Around 1855 there was a post office, a border customs office and an earthenware factory in the town, which now has 1,300 inhabitants.
Like the town of Domažlice (Taus) , the place Klentsch was considered to be the “advanced position” of the Slavs in Central Europe since the end of the 19th century during the time of the Czech National Revival , as it was almost on the border with the Kingdom of Bavaria . The place was on the language border; German-speaking residents were in the minority.
Klenčí, which belonged to the Waldmünchen district from 1940 to 1945 , was the westernmost Czech-speaking settlement in Bohemia and was replaced in 1945 by Krásná (Schönbach bei Asch) . In contrast, the current districts of Capartice (Nepomuk) , Jindřichova Hora (Heinrichsberg) and Černá Řeka (Sophienthal) were dominated by German-speaking countries.
In 2006 there were 1,302 inhabitants in the Klenčí commune. Since 2006 Klenčí has had the status of Městys .
politics
In 2015 the mayor Karel Smutný, who had been in office since 2007, was replaced by Jan Bozděch.
